Introduction to the HRS-Clinique Bohler – Women’s, Mothers and Children’s section

Hello and welcome to the Hôpitaux Robert Schuman-Clinique Bohler. As your baby will be delivered in our maternity unit, we’d like to invite you to discover the different services offered by the Women’s, Mothers and Children’s section.

Car parks

You’ll find the entrance to the main park in basement level -2 of the Hôpital Kirchberg. Open 24 hours a day, it’s accessible via rue Joseph Leydenbach. On level -1, parking spaces identified by means of a special logo are available for new and future parents.

The Adagio car park situated opposite to the Clinique Bohler provides alternative parking during the day. This car park’s entrance is located in Boulevard Pierre Werner. You can then enter the Clinique Bohler via the Adagio building. This access is closed at night.

Situated in front of the Clinique Bohler’s main reception, a drop-off area enables you to quickly access the clinic’s entrance. You should vacate this area as soon as possible after dropping someone off.

Reception

Everyone arriving at the Clinique Bohler must report to the reception office on the ground floor. Identify yourself using the reception terminal in the hall. Reception is open from Monday to Friday from 6:30 AM to 9 PM and from 7 AM to 9 PM at weekends and on public holidays.

For all admissions, don’t forget to bring along your identity card or passport, Social Security card, supplementary insurance details and your pregnancy file. You’ll get to choose your type of room at the time of admission.

If you arrive at night, an outdoor entry bell and camera system near the side door (the night door) will put you in direct contact with the staff from the delivery room.

After the reception closes, if you arrive via the basement, an emergency phone is available in the entrance hall.

The prenatal area

The prenatal area on the basement level of the Clinique Bohler provides an opportunity to meet up and discuss the different preparations for the birth and the various postnatal sessions proposed by the clinic and its partners.

There’s a waiting room where you can wait until the organiser arrives. You can view all available pre-and post-natal services and register directly online via the website www.stg.hopitauxschuman.lu section “La préparation à la naissance “.

The ‘Policlinique’ outpatient clinic

The gynaecological and obstetrical outpatient clinic is often your first point of contact with the establishment. Located on the ground floor, this department provides pre-hospitalisation services, pre- and post-natal consultations and emergency services, and is open from 7 AM to 7 PM from Monday to Friday and 8 AM to 6 PM at weekends and on public holidays.

After reporting to reception, make your way to entrance A of the policlinique. A secretary will be there to greet you at the department’s admissions office.

The medical and nursing team will take care of moms-to-be, including for pre-natal screening, pregnancy monitoring, emergencies or admissions at the start of labour. These activities are performed in dedicated facilities.

Two rooms are reserved for morphological ultrasound scans. These examinations are performed by appointment, by specialists in foetal ultrasound scans using state-of-the-art ultrasound equipment.

You can also make an appointment at the policlinique for special consultations such as the early pre-natal interview with a midwife and the consultation with the anaesthetist.

When you enter via entrance B at the policlinique, you’ll be guided to other examinations such as those for glucose tolerance.

The healthcare team is at your disposal for the post-delivery period. You can meet with lactation consultants by appointment on all weekdays between 1 PM and 4 PM.

Managing your pregnancy

The Women’s, Mothers and Children’s section has a special unit dedicated to high risk pregnancies. It welcomes and assists mothers-to-be experiencing a particular problem during pregnancy.

Situated on the second floor of the gynaecology department, this unit includes 12 beds in either single or double rooms.

The delivery room

The delivery room is part of a technical hub comprising the operating theatre and the neonatology department. Ring the bell when you arrive. Situated on the first floor of the Clinique Bohler, it is open 24 hours a day.

The medical and nursing team is there to support couples during the birth. They also provide emergency obstetrical care when the policlinique is closed.

A waiting room is provided for the family.

The service has 6 delivery rooms to welcome you in a friendly and secure environment.

The rooms are each equipped with a comfortable and easily adjustable delivery table enabling you to adopt different positions, a baby area, an armchair in which to rest, and a foetal monitoring device linked to a monitoring centre.

Depending on your plans for the delivery, the midwife will accompany you in the specially adapted room.

A full range of resources and equipment is available to assist during labour and to help baby move down the birth canal: birth support ropes, birthing balls, birthing chairs and the birthing bath.

To preserve the intimate nature of the birth, the initial care for baby is performed in the delivery room, right next to the parents.

If baby requires special treatment, this will be performed in a suitably adapted environment situated next to the delivery rooms.

In the case of a Caesarean birth, the close proximity of the operating theatre means that this can be performed quickly, by a highly experienced team.

Our priority is to encourage and promote a strong bond between the new-born and his or her parents. Taking full account of the physiology of the birth process, the medical and nursing team will accompany and support you, encouraging a strong bond between the parents and the child from the moment the baby is born.

Maternity

Your stay in the maternity unit is a very special moment for you and your spouse, as this provides your first contact with your new-born baby. We encourage close proximity between the mother and baby, and in as far as possible all treatment will be performed in the bedroom.

We reserve a special place for the father, involving him in the care provided for the child and the treatment and support for the mother. With this in mind, a special area is provided where he can spend time with his baby and take over when mom needs some rest. This area is accessible during both the day and night. It’s also possible for the father to stay with the mother and baby at night when they are in a single room.

The maternity department is situated on the third floor of the Clinique Bohler and has 33 bedrooms: 27 single bedrooms and 6 double bedrooms.

Our double and single bedrooms, which have been renovated using accredited environmentally friendly materials, offer all the comfort you require during your stay. They are all equipped with a baby care area and a bathroom.

Baby sleeps in either a traditional cradle or a half-moon bed which can be adapted to mom’s bed.

A dining room is at your disposal whatever the time of day. A buffet breakfast is served between 7 AM and 10 AM. The other meals are served in the bedroom throughout the day.

Several relaxation areas are available upstairs, including hot and cold drinks dispensers.

In the maternity department’s Adagio wing, you’ll find the “deluxe first-class” single bedrooms offering a premium, hotel-style experience. These bedrooms feature elegant contemporary furniture. All meals are served in the bedroom.

In the « lobby” reception area, a reception coordinator is on duty from 9 AM to 5 PM.

In the centre of the Adagio wing, you’ll find an area open to all, a friendly collective environment providing educational information and dialogue.

Situated in the centre of the main building, the new-borns area enables the paediatrician to examine your child the day after his or her birth and on the day baby leaves the hospital. This secure area also has incubators for if your baby needs to be closely monitored for a few hours.

Hospitalisation normally lasts for 3 to 4 days for deliveries and 4 to 5 days for Caesareans. Departures are organised every day including weekends and public holidays depending on your state of health and that of your baby, in agreement with the gynaecologist and the paediatrician.

Neonatology

Located near the delivery rooms, the Neonatology Department is a department specialising in caring for premature babies born between 32 and 37 weeks from amenorrhea and children who went the full term but who require particular monitoring and special care.

If you would like a tour of the neonatology department, the « Neonatology Department” video is available for viewing on the acteurdemasante.lu website.
